Discotek Media Blu-ray Announcements from Otakon 2025 – Anime, Tokusatsu, and Nihon Nights Reveals

Discotek Media used Otakon on August 9, 2025 to announce a packed lineup of upcoming releases across anime, cartoons, tokusatsu, and Thai films. The slate mixes long-requested restorations, fan-favorite franchises, and rare titles making their way to Blu-ray.

Shin-chan: The Complete English Series (SD-BD)

All 78 episodes of the Funimation-adapted run arrive in a 2-disc SD-BD set, with widescreen episodes properly encoded and closed captions included. The crude-humor classic features voice actors Laura Bailey and Troy Baker.

Special features: Commentaries (“From the Bowels of the Booth”), cast auditions, clean ending, music video, trailers.

Technical specs: 1.33:1 & 1.85:1 aspect ratios, SD video, English Dolby Digital 2.0, English SDH subtitles.

Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro (Steelbook Blu-ray)

Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved caper returns with an all-new English dub starring Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, Michelle Ruff, Lex Lang, and Doug Erholtz. The Steelbook edition is exclusive to the Crunchyroll Store.

Special features: Three English-language versions, 1980 theatrical subtitle restoration, translation notes, trailers, interviews, commentary, complete storyboards, deleted opening, art gallery, opening/ending credits collection.

Technical specs: 1.85:1, 1080p HD, multiple English/Japanese audio options, English subtitles.

Mega Man: The Complete Series (SD-BD)

All 27 episodes of the U.S. TV series are collected, with Episode 1 newly fixed to run at the correct speed.

Special features: Commentaries, original pitch pilot, scans of the press kit, TV and toy commercials, art and merchandise galleries, first draft series bible, new commentary with Ian James Corlett.

Packaging: Double-sided insert, including a “worn game box” design.

Urotsukidoji: Sequels of the Overfiend (SD-BD)

Includes sequels 2–5 with every version ever released, many subtitled in English for the first time.

Special features: Vintage English dubs, promos, erotic collections, liner notes, U.S. video credits, archival content.

Technical specs: 1.33:1 SD video, English/Japanese audio, full English subtitles, English signs and songs subtitles.

Golden Boy (Blu-ray)

The six-episode OVA is presented upscaled from the original masters, with Japanese and English audio.

Special features: New commentary by Doug Smith, who also handled graphic design for this release.

Sgt. Frog: The Movies (Blu-ray)

All five theatrical films arrive in HD with Japanese audio, English subtitles, stereo and 5.1 audio options. Extras are to be announced. The release was previously expected to not happen but is now confirmed.

Zegapain: The Complete Collection (Blu-ray)

The 26-episode TV series comes with the Elastic Media English dub, the 2016 prequel film Zegapain ADP, and the 2024 sequel film Zegapain STA. An extra disc is included to house the extensive bonus content.

Digimon: The Movies – Collection 2 (Blu-ray)

Three theatrical films—Revenge of Diaboromon, Battle of Adventurers, and Runaway Locomon—are presented in HD with Japanese and newly restored uncut English dubs.

Special features: Promos, TV spots, art gallery, vintage English end credits.

Monster (Blu-ray)

Naoki Urasawa’s 74-episode psychological thriller is planned for release in 2026, with Japanese and English audio.

Project ARMS (SD-BD)

All 52 episodes are presented in standard definition with Japanese and English audio.

Higurashi Kai & Higurashi Rei (Blu-ray)

The sequel seasons to the horror-mystery series feature fixed video for Kai and updated subtitles for both. Releases are sold separately.

Zone of the Enders: The Complete Collection (Blu-ray)

Includes the prequel OVA 2167 Idolo and TV series Dolores, I, with Japanese and English audio.

Shin Aim for the Ace! (Blu-ray)

The 1978 remake of the tennis anime classic is collected in a two-disc set, subtitled in English for the first time.

Tokusatsu Releases

Kamen Rider Amazon (Blu-ray)

All 24 episodes of the 1974–1975 series come to Blu-ray across two discs. The show follows Daisuke Yamamoto, a young man raised in the jungles of South America who gains incredible strength after receiving the mystical GiGi Armlet. Returning to Japan, he becomes Kamen Rider Amazon to battle the ancient evil Gorgos and the Ten-Faced Demon of the Garanda Empire, protecting humanity from their mutant beasts and monsters.

Special features: Interviews with Toru Okazaki (Daisuke/Amazon) and Yoji Matsuda (Masahiko), art gallery, new essay by tokusatsu expert Mike Dent, vintage commercial for the Kamen Rider Amazon belt.

Kamen Rider Stronger (Blu-ray)

The final series in the original Kamen Rider run, presented in HD with Japanese audio and English subtitles.

Special features: Essay by Mike Dent, art gallery, vintage belt commercial.

Android Kikaider 01 (SD-BD)

The 46-episode sequel series arrives with polished subtitles and most extras from previous U.S. releases.

Nihon Nights

NIHON NIGHTS is a film sub-label of anime licensor Discotek Media.

Bangkok Dangerous (1999) (Blu-ray)

The Pang Brothers’ original Thai action film includes 5.1 audio and the theatrical trailer.

SARS Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis (Blu-ray)

Taweewat Wantha’s cult action-horror-comedy debuts in HD with newly improved English subtitles and 5.1 audio.

Special features: Deleted scenes, trailers, music video, featurette.
